Israeli writer-director Nir Bergman makes his feature debut with this quiet story of a family still reeling from the father's accidental death nine months earlier. The mother (Orli Zilbershatz-Banai), a midwife, works long hours to meet the family's accumulating bills, and her chronic absence makes her the undeserving repository of her children's anger; the sharpest conflict arises between her and her teenage daughter (Maya Maron), a budding songwriter whose adolescent growing pains have been greatly complicated by the loss of her father. Bergman delicately unravels the silent resentments festering in the latchkey home, but the pain is leavened by his droll sense of humor—the oldest boy, a particularly morose character, has a job distributing handbills while plodding around in a mouse costume. In Hebrew with subtitles. R, 86 min.
