Bridget Jones, the patron saint of single women with big butts, returns in this pleasant rerun of the 2001 hit Bridget Jones's Diary. Adapted from Helen Fielding's best-selling novel, it carefully re-creates the first movie's lightweight romance and mildly cheeky gender comedy, as the sunny Londoner (Renee Zellweger) once again tries to choose between constipated barrister Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and raffish editor Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). Director Beeban Kidron reprises two of the original film's best comic sequences—the inept fisticuffs between Darcy and Cleaver and the humiliating close-up of Bridget's ass on nationwide TV—and the sound track features another formidable playlist of you-go-girl pop hits. With Jim Broadbent, Gemma Jones, and Shirley Henderson. R, 108 min.
