In this 2008 video documentary by local director Collin Souter, various lonely hearts search for the perfect mate through online dating, speed dating, emceed mixers, and even New Age group therapy (a workshop in cuddling). Souter argues that busy Americans, though increasingly isolated by technology, nonetheless turn to it for a quick romantic fix, yet he stacks the deck by ignoring more traditional approaches like volunteer committees or travel clubs. On the plus side, his subjects show greater intelligence and reflection than their counterparts on TV reality shows. The lifeblood of the documentary is Gwen Thompson, a vivacious African-American who's open to interracial dating but leery of commitment; ironically, after all her efforts, she finds Mr. Right living in her apartment complex. 90 min.
