The emo granddaddies have big plans. Plus: Love blooms in Bonnie "Prince" Billy's band, and more

The Braid reunion—which produced a four-song EP, Closer to Closed, last summer—is proving to be more than a fleeting thing. On Monday the band announced a nine-date August tour, and there's also a new album in the works for a 2013 release. "For this August run, we will be playing selections off of Closer to Closed, but nothing new that has yet to be released," says guitarist and vocalist Bob Nanna. "The folks on the east and west coasts will get doses of the full back catalog before we try any new trickery. But rest assured, it's coming. We can only play 20-year-old songs for so long!"

A Twitter tipster spotted Angel Olsen and Emmett Kelly heading into Buona Terra last week—aside from being supporting players to Bonnie "Prince" Billy, aka Will Oldham, they're also rumored to be each other's others. Both Olsen and Kelly appear in the new BPB video for "I See a Darkness," an old tune that Oldham and the band rerecorded for the forthcoming EP Now Here's My Plan. The video premiered earlier this month on the website of noted indie-rock fanzine the New York Times.

Chicago posthardcore four-piece Coping took local DIY venues by storm when they hit the scene a couple years ago—their brand of emo is so cathartic and full of twinkly, noodly guitar that the Reader named them the "best new band that will make you think it's 1995 again" in last year's Best of Chicago issue. Now Coping is calling it quits, in part because guitarist Tyler Janssen is moving back to California to finish school. Coping drummer Tom Kenneally says they have a full-length in the can that they hope to release at some point in the future, and they're still practicing when they're able. "Hopefully we can get it together for a last show of some kind," he says, "but we'll just have to see."
