Tibetans ostracize the blind, which moved the blind German social activist Sabriye Tenberken to found the Braille Without Borders school in Lhasa. Her admiring letter to extreme-sports enthusiast Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to scale Mount Everest, inspired him to lead six of her students on an expedition up the 23,000-foot Mount Lhakpa Ri. The kids are impressively plucky, but Weihenmayer comes off as an egomaniac, arguing with his team and endangering the youngsters' lives. Lucy Walker directed this cloying and manipulative 2006 documentary. In English and subtitled Tibetan. PG, 104 min.
