Gossip Wolf: Bitchpork's not dead!

The DIY anti-Pitchfork festival returns for 2012. Plus: Engine merges with Soma Studios, and the prolific MC Sulaiman

Will Tyvek look this goofy when they're playing Bitchpork? No. Absolutely not.

Bitchpork was supposed to end its run last summer, but the massive DIY alternative to the Pitchfork Music Festival is returning for another year. Gossip Wolf has the scoop on some early confirmations on 2012's three-day bill—including Detroit garage band Tyvek, New York psych group PC Worship, and locals such as noise veterans Panicsville, solo synth-and-drums project Psychic Steel, and one-man "ghoulcore" act Gas Mask Horse. The full lineup should be announced in a few weeks.

Spring is the best time of year for watching new couples shack up. And when one partner takes the other's name? That shit is major! This Wolf just heard about a match, um, engineered in heaven: local recording studios Engine and Soma are moving in together at Soma's digs near Division and Damen, where they'll both operate under the Soma banner. The space on Honore in Bucktown that Engine has occupied since 1999 will be shuttered by Memorial Day, according to staffers, but never fear—members of Engine's studio team, including Brian Deck, Sanford Parker, and Neil Strauch, will soon be settled in at Soma, as will much of Engine's top-notch gear.

Two weeks ago local rapper Sulaiman got invited to participate in a top-secret TV pilot that was filming in town. "It's kind of like a music contest, and they called me down to basically use my writing talents and vocal talents," he says. Sulaiman's next solo effort, Planet Earth, is due this summer. He's also working on a project called The Mogs with MCs such as Mic Terror, YP, Naledge, Vic Mensa, Rockie Fresh, GLC, and Chance the Rapper—some of whom are, like Sulaiman, members of Million Dollar Mano's Treated Crew, which just wrapped its debut album. On Sun 5/20 the crew will play a show at Adrianna's (16300 S. Dixie Highway, 708-253-9811) that MTV2 is filming for Sucker Free. Also on the bill: King Louie, L.E.P. Bogus Boys, Chief Keef, Katie Got Bandz, Mikey Rocks, and more.
