Best View From a Performance Space

Performance penthouse

You may not think a university best known for its philosophers, physicists, and economists would need one of the most spectacular arts venues in the city. But why wouldn't it want one? The University of Chicago's Logan Center for the Arts, which opened last fall, has plenty of studio, gallery, and performance spaces, indoors and out, but its most magnificent asset by far is the performance penthouse. The penthouse occupies the ninth floor of the Logan's 11-story tower, so maybe "penthouse" is a misnomer. But who can argue with a view like this? The northern and eastern walls are made entirely of windows overlooking the U. of C. campus and, beyond that, the lake. It's a sight to behold. Perhaps one of the great minds of Hyde Park can figure out a formula to determine the exact degree to which it enhances a musical performance.
