Best Underused Screening Room

Museum of Contemporary Art

The auditorium of the Museum of Contemporary Art makes a movie seem striking even before it starts. You enter the room at the top row, which draws your attention right away to the impressively high screen; if you want to sit closer to the image, you can descend a steep flight of stairs, which makes the screen seem taller yet. The seats may be a little rigid, but they insure you'll sit up straight for the entire show, helpful if you're watching experimental films or just want to admire the formal properties of any movie. The MCA hasn't programmed an extended film series since 2010, when it presented eight Italian films in conjunction with the exhibit "Italics," but last month the auditorium hosted two programs as part of the Bodies of Work Festival. Let's hope this signals more film to come.
