The Other Dance Festival

What better time to foment revolution than now? And what better place than on government property? Last September, at the Chicago Park District's Hamlin Park field house, the Other Dance Festival presented a program that assaulted capitalism, racial and sexual prejudices, and U.S. chauvinism. Peter Carpenter's solo Rituals of Abundance for Lean Times #4: Considering the Pelvis cast the choreographer as management and dancer Ondine Geary as labor, and came down hard on the side of the worker. Darrell Jones's trio Hoo-Ha (Eat This Remix) bore witness to the vulnerability and power of south-side voguers. And Jenny Shore Butler's trio for Raizel Performances, Foreign Policy, questioned the efficacy of overseas "benevolence."
