In addition to the weekly Stardust at Berlin there’s an ever-expanding roster of monthly don’t-miss queer/trans/GLBTQ dance parties around town (the aforementioned Chances, FKA at Big Chicks)—but the most elusive is also the most distinctive. Jai Ho!, named for the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack hit, happens just a few times a year. Staged at Big Chicks by Trikone Chicago, a networking group for the South Asian GLBTQ community, the party’s billed as “All Queer! All Bollywood! All Night!” The crowd is heavily South Asian and the playlist is packed with all the contemporary Bollywood and bhangra you can handle, with some Top 40 R & B and hip-hop thrown in to keep folks grinding. The last Jai Ho!, in April, was themed “Bollywood Beach Party” and featured a midnight drag show hosted by drag queen Lahore Vagistan. When’s the next one? Your guess is as good as mine. Keep your eyes peeled for flyers, or monitor the Big Chicks event calendar or the Trikone Google group for updates.
