Rouben Mamoulian's forgettable 1935 adaptation of Thackeray's Vanity Fair was the first feature to be photographed in the perfected Technicolor process. Miriam Hopkins acquits herself fairly well under the weight of Mamoulian's flashy direction, and Pat Nixon appears as an extra in a ballroom sequence (though you'll have to look hard and fast to spot her).
