Throughout most of her career Diane Keaton has shown sound instincts, so it's a mystery why she failed to sniff out this false, brittle comedy as a waste of her gifts. She plays a single mother so overbearing and clinging she's supposed to be cute and funny, but her nearly pathological interference in the life of her unmarried youngest daughter (Mandy Moore) is instead tedious and sad. A priggish architect (Tom Everett Scott) and an easygoing musician (Gabriel Macht) answer the online ad the daughter doesn't know mom placed on her behalf, and frumpy Moore suddenly (and unbelievably) finds herself with two ardent lovers. There's a lot of innuendo but precious little eroticism under Michael Lehmann's direction. Keaton's costumes are the only bright spots. PG-13, 102 min.
