The last of MGM's three Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland musicals. It's the hey-kids-let's-put-on-a-show plot again, and there are a lot of now-mysterious impressions of famous Broadway stars of the period, but otherwise the show is pretty darn good. Busby Berkeley applies some dazzling crane work to the production numbers, Rooney tap-dances (one of his partners is future director Richard Quine), and Garland sings “How About You?” (her numbers were directed by newcomer Vincente Minnelli). With James Gleason, Fay Bainter, and Donald Meek (1941).
