Jung, a visual artist born in South Korea but raised in Belgium by white parents, adapts his childhood memoir-cum-graphic novel, combining animation, archival footage, and documentary sequences of him returning to South Korea as an adult. Tying this scrapbook together is Jung's plaintive narration, delivered by French actor William Coryn, which describes in depth the alienation he wrestled with as a boy. This 2012 feature is melancholy for a movie about childhood (probably too much so to appeal to children), but the intimate storytelling is appealing all the same. Laurent Boileau codirected; the original French title translates as "Skin Color: Honey." In French with subtitles.
