The Neo-Futurists have lasted 25 years for good reason. Their unblinking honesty, fluid craft, and delightful eccentricity make them pretty much a sure thing. But everybody bombs sometimes. In Kurt Chiang's searing true account of his bout with cancer and subsequent decision to copy out—by hand—the novel Lord of the Flies, much is revealed and little is learned. Playing themselves under Tif Harrison's direction, five other cast members zoom in and out of Chiang's monologue, and the show's main pleasure is seeing him play straight man during their tirades. But none of the script's bright, hard points of information ever connect, and aside from the loose fragments of six strangers' inner lives, there's little to walk away with. –Keith Griffith
