Money's tight, grandpa's gone, Reggie's a lesbian, Liliana's a preachy evangelist, and Inez is almost definitely divorced. But the Ochoa women are still excited to make the traditional Christmas tamales. Written by the all-Latina Teatro Luna ensemble and directed by Paula Ramirez, this work in progress is sort of wacky and pretty fun, with its occasionally tortured Spanglish and some quite cómico lines. Still, the 60-minute running time stymies an intriguing—if quite possibly unintended—examination of the trauma caused by the absence of men. I'd trade a bit of the merry holiday cheer for some character development. —Asher Klein
