A Place to Bury Strangers, Hunters, DJ Bud Sweet

When: Tue., July 17, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $12, $10 in advance
Brooklyn's Hunters—led by vocalists and guitarists Derek Watson and Isabel Almeida, and not to be confused with the local band that recently renamed itself Encrust—augment their deconstructionist rock 'n' roll with an ambitious noisy side that relies on dialing in superweird effects-pedal settings. So it kind of makes sense that they've toured with the Kills and that Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs coproduced last year's Hands on Fire EP (Aagoo). (It takes a little longer for James Iha's presence as coproducer to make sense—that's about the guitar tones.) Though only 14 minutes long, the EP brings to mind an impressive number of bands: Sonic Youth, Royal Trux, Bikini Kill, the Stooges, the Pixies, and really too many more to list here. I missed their set with the Kills over the winter due to a snowstorm, but word is that they destroy onstage. —Miles Raymer A Place to Bury Strangers headlines.
