<![CDATA[This year marks the 40th anniversary of the turbulent Chicago Democratic convention, when people in their 20s and 30s disrupted the convention because of their opposition to the candidate chosen by the party elite, Hubert Humphrey. Many of those people, now in their 50s and 60s, are now Clinton supporters. Wouldn't it be ironic if this year's convention in Denver was disrupted by aging protestors once again outraged that their candidate was defeated because the party elite chose another candidate?

<![CDATA[A day after Miner's column was posted, CNN ran a story about Obama's first political campaign, a 1996 race for the Illinois legislature, in which he knocked his primary opponents off the ballot by challenging their petitions. The CNN story, which featured an interview with the Tribune's John Kass, focused on how Obama's image and rhetoric are at odds with the reality of his own career as a hardball Chicago politician who has exploited technicalities in the rules to win. This could be very harmful to Obama, especially if he beats Clinton thanks once again to his ability to exploit technicalities in the rules.

<![CDATA[When I read Conley's column I at first thought it was bizarre, just the ravings of a very delusional optimist or idealist. Then it hit me. Conley is busy sucking up to the powers that be so he can get a better job. Some Salon editor should have seen the piece as fiction and trashed it. However, there is a notion that anything news item that mentions Barack Obama, however remote the connection, must be relevant or important. How sad.
