<![CDATA[I disliked the title of Mosner's article at first, until I realized that he is fighting Lazare's agism with agism: "You call me dumb for being young, I call you dumb for being old." Which is sad, because Mosner makes all the valid points regarding the new media: interactivity, ease of access, democracy, etc.

The Baby Boomer generation's motto was "don't trust anybody over thirty," Lazare's is expanding his distrust to those under 30.

I read 19th century texts on the illuminated screen when I cannot readily find them in bookstores: anybody hear of Project Gutenberg? When students complain that the bookstore did not order their Melville books, I point to Melville online.

My motto: Technology is as technology does.

<![CDATA[Your handle on this newfangled Internet thing is just so dead on. For example, I'm trying to imagine seeing your above rant, (with links inserted!?!) anywhere in print.

Who would print such a thing? And why?

The course was set towards the internet when the vaccuum tube was invented, long before you, sub-30, or me, super 30 were born.

Easy to understand why is was difficult to see the handwriting on the wall then. Difficult to understand why it's not easy to see it today.

And yes, I still couldn't live without my books. Mark Twain must be not be read on an illuminated screen, and is best when you can smell the old paper.

But that doesn't particularly enhance the experience of consuming the news -- or a blog.

Alas, I doubt my kids will ever miss books, and will probably sell mine to an antique shop when I die.
