<![CDATA[I think Ben's analysis is dead on. It was a series of disconnected small talking points and zingers (some of which were brilliant) and not much more. She pulled back from the few points where she seemed to signal a move to the substantive. I'm shocked at the attempts to put her introductory speech in the same ballpark as Reagan. Have these people heard/read "A Time For Choosing?"

I'm no fan of Reagan, but that speech puts Palin's in proper perspective. Her speech was an advanced pep rally.

<![CDATA[I'm a Democrat, so I'm obviously not in Palin's target audience, but I thought the speech was pretty weak as well. Lots of jabs at Obama and Democrats, using the same tired insults that date back to Reagan, and little uplift about what a McCain-Palin administration would mean for American citizens. Sure, if you're primed to love her, the speech was great--she's speaking your language. But I'm not sure if it was inspiring to undecided voters.

<![CDATA[I think the speech was pretty good, but it was for the base and only the base. I don't see it moving undecideds. What I was afraid of was a Palin who would reach out to Democrats and independents, and she did anything but that.

<![CDATA[Did we listen to the same speech?! That was one of the most amateurish "major" political speech's I've seen.

Do you set the bar so low?

That speech was degrading to all women if that is the standard.

And it was a night filled with hate and condesention!

Does your criteria for a great speech exclude content? If so then...Hitler, now there was a great speaker!

Agreed, speech making is an art form. Do you judge all art from its skill of execution, but separate from its content?

And in Palin's case, the speech written for her was not composed. It was simply a battery of sound bites.

You must have stayed up too late.

<![CDATA["'Community organizer' is going to be the new 'San Francisco values.'" Yeah, and the Peace Corps, too. I mean, what kind of losers join the Peace Corps? Why can't they get a real job? I've had enough of that JFK idealism crap. You want to help the poor? Buy a copy of Streetwise. That does real good. Plus it's easy. It's the future.
