To all of Malachi Ritscher's friends:
We will miss his wry smile and his gentle caring manner. It is terribly hard to usher in the holiday season every year mourning the loss of someone who meant so much to us all. May all of you who valued his friendship and presence in their lives show the same to your friends and loved ones today, tomorrow and always. And may these wishes extend to all those touched by the manner of his death. I hope all your lives make a difference and help to shape the world into a better and more peaceful place.

I am so sorry for you Paul. How could you send a letter like the one above directed to your Brother's only child. Once again your Family ceases to amaze all of us. What is true about your statement above is the ending now everybody else knows what a piece of shit you are. Schizophrenia does not run on Malachi's Mother side. Let's look alittle deeper into YOUR side. Your Brothers real name was Mark but he called himself Malachi which is the name he gave to his son. And the worst display of schizophrenia is setting himself on fire at the Ohio off ramp while wearing a rubber shull and wrapping himself in an American Flag. Schizo!!
And after reading the letter above that you meant for your own Nephew, and your Brother only son, yes now everbody know beyond any shadow of a doubt what a piece of shit you are, now everybody else reading this knows too. Again don't get any help a ramp is waiting for YOU.

I am sure you have learned a lot about schizophrenia because of your own diagnosis. I suspect you get that from your mother's side of the family. You got what you wanted, which was money from your father, so shut the fuck up and go back to talking to yourself. Malachi knew what a piece of shit you are, now everybody else knows too.

You have to understand and admit to the following Schizophrenia is a brain disease that interferes with normal brain functioning. It causes affected people to exhibit odd and often highly irrational or disorganized behavior. Because the brain is the organ in the body where thinking, feeling and understanding of the world takes place (where consciousness exists), a brain disease like schizophrenia alters thinking, feeling, understanding and consciousness itself in affected persons, changing their lives for the worse. People affected with schizophrenia have difficulty thinking coherently, interacting with others normally, carrying out responsibilities and expressing emotions appropriately. Even simple everyday tasks like personal hygiene can become unmanageable and neglected. The disease can thus impact every aspect of affected people's work, family, and social life. Though not affected directly, family members also frequently become distressed and overwhelmed by the difficulties involved in providing care and in coming to terms with the transformation of their loved one into a patient with a serious chronic illness. Don't wait for your family to get diagnosed, just to be on the safe side.

And so another year passes and the war drags on, the corruption in government is worse than ever, and in the last days of the Bush administration is promise of more abhorrent behavior that will take decades to undo. By this time tomorrow we should know if another son of Chicago will ascend to the head of our government and we take seriously his message of hope. If only Malachi could have waited for hope and change, if only we can wait as well.

I wrote about Malachi, and the flame of the millennium, on anairoads.org about a year ago.

I think that the media has done something nearly criminal in suggesting that Malachi was a "troubled" man and that this was "suicide." Nobody says that about the monk who set himself afire. It was seen for what it was - the ultimate and defining act of protest.

I also want to quote something which was said about Hunter S. Thompson's "suicide."

Adapted it goes like this: Maybe Malachi was having a GOOD day.

    I'd like to think so.

Jazzlover from a November 8th post above wonders if the story of this man will not be heard nationally.

Well, I'm in New Orleans. The story I got was the one written by Peter Margasak, not the marginalized version. I got it from a link to Margasak's story posted on a friends site...

    ...in Maine.

    The truth will out.
    Keep the faith.

You are a pretty poor liar. The problems he had were with his son with whom he had little contact for years; he made that very clear to his immediate family before and after his death. You know what he was talking about don't you? As for my family, you know nothing about me and are continually proving your ignorance by pretending that you do.

Yes, I knew Mark, spoke with him almost everyday for nine years. Shared a passion for Music and Recording. We talked over the years about everything including his dysfunctional family which included you PAUL! Forget social skills try learning some FAMILY skills. Your clan needs to settle all your problems, but to do that would require getting together and talking openly about your feelings and concerns as a family. After all our talks Mark said he had no hope of that happening with his ever!! You know what he was talking about don't you. He can no longer make a change, if anything good could come out of this, it would be your family healing because of his action. It wasn't about the WAR, he would have had that look with the sight grin if he knew how good his diversion to the real problem went over. DO THE RIGHT THING MAKE IT RIGHT. SOMEONE TAKE THE FIRST STEP!!!

If you are not Malachi 5 then you should identify yourself. You speak as if you knew my brother; if you didn't then you should stop posting as if you did. Malachi 5 has made his own bed and will have to deal with his own demons. The fact that you (whoever you are) find it so easy to speak ill of the dead is evidence of poor social skills. It seems that you who have the need to insult my brother's family and friends are the one who must be struggling with a rather sorry and dysfunctional existence.
