<![CDATA[Don't flatter yourself, Tim, by claiming that you've 'attempted' to "...engage some of the folks here in a mutually respectful, productive conversation...", you have yet to do so.

You've posted 5 comments, all complaining about your perception of the lack of intelligent content in the comments of others, all calling for censorship of the comments of others, all bereft of any other thoughts, ideas, opinions or subject matter, other than blanket criticism of others' contributions.

    Period.

Your criticism is more appropriately directed at yourself.

Had you posted, in addition to your one note complaint, anything, anything at all, you might have had a chance at persuading some of the 'need' for Zorn-like censorship.

As it stands, the only thing your posts have shown is that you have nothing to contribute, no interest in "...a mutually respectful, productive conversation...", and no capacity for same.

    Bye-Bye.

<![CDATA[So, do we all hold our breaths, anxiously awaiting your brilliant observations?

As in your desire for 'moderation', to contain and limit the 'non-existent' censoring of those comments YOU deem to be of no value?

If you haven't the patience or tolerance or appreciation for opinions radically outside of your high standards, if you don't HAVE an opinion, to express and share, that rises to the level of intelligent discourse you have decided merits your attention, then I suggest you don't comment until you do.

We've had quite enough requests for censorship, from the various clout monkeys touting for daley and his ilk, to last us awhile.

Your request for censorship, based on your definition of intelligent content, is still a request for censorship.

What we need is less censorship, not more.

The meager efforts needed, to ignore those comments you find of little to not use, are better made, than to encourage censorship of comments, for whatever reasons.

<![CDATA[PTP, I don't claim to be highly intelligent. Do you? And yes, I'll contribute something worthwhile when I think I have something worthwhile to contribute, unlike many of those posting here, who appear to post merely to attack others and/or get off on seeing their words posted in a public forum. In all this my main criticism remains with whoever at The Reader is moderating this board. That person, in my opinion, is not doing a good job. The moderation is so loose or even non-existent, a reader starts off by reading an intelligent, interesting post by Joravsky and/or Dumke, but then is dragged down with a comment board that contains little more than nyah, nyah, nyah at best---and complete incoherence at worst.

<![CDATA[Tim1959, thanks for helping illustrate my point about the disappointingly low level of discourse on this board. I have said absolutely nothing pro- or anti-Daley, yet because I express a general, apolitical disappointment with the quality of the reader posts, I am immediately villified by you as some sort of Daley political acolyte. It's sad that you don't see your own flawed logic. Playground rhetorical tactics like yours cheapen our civic discourse and ultimately only make it more difficult for the mayor's critics to be heard and make a cogent and compelling case. They have to be lumped in with the likes of you.

Anyway, I say if the rich high rise residents want the park to be free and forever clear, then do not allow the CCM to build (underground mind you), but also do away with the tennis courts, playground and fieldhouse, all of which is basically their private country club and just make the area one big lawn, free and clear.

<![CDATA[Tim, Your correct . It's people like you and your mentality running Chicago. You feel it was the right thing to get rid of all the shines and ricans. Your one of those guys that sits at Schallers in Brigeport and talks about how white the City looks. But let me tell you something Tim. When there is no one else to blame for all the City's problems, you'll turn on each other. Just look at the daley and rielly fight. You people have issues. Remember, we are all brothers and sisters under the skin. The Tribune is in trouble because most people are sick of reading fluff! The Reader's success is it tells it like it is. So Tim go to Church on Sunday and pray. Pray that daley doesn't knock those down next.

<![CDATA[It's funny that you people accuse Daley of ethnic cleansing when he clearly isn't doing that one bit. You complained about the high-rises and the lack of opportunity they afforded their residents. So, Daley sets out to tear them down. Yes, no more high-rises and new homes for a lot of people. Condos? Yes, but only a 1/3. Another 1/3 goes for affordable housing, which is a set-aside to allow for people to actually own a home with the help of subsidies. The last 1/3 is set aside for PUBLIC HOUSING. YES, THE FREE KIND. THE KIND THAT HOUSED the people who lived in the high-rises.

So what you have here is a redevelopment plan that addresses the problem. Will it work? The jury is still out. But, come on people, are you that blind to see that part of the problem with gangs, crime and the like was because of the fact that you had high concentrations of dirt-poor people living on top of one another?

If Daley were a racist, he wouldn't allow for programs like the Resurrection Project to help put Hispanics in homes. If Daley were a racist, he wouldn't have fought to get the big boxes into underserved areas.

People in this city complain about everything Daley does and it is downright sick. If you'd like to bring up the Hamburgs, why not bring up the Panthers? I mean, wasn't Congressman Bobby Rush a card-carrying member of that organization?

You people are all full of hot air and nothing more. I grew up in this city and I'm happy to say that I appreciate the changes taking place. On the one hand, you say you want new development, but when it impedes on your own comfort level, you're out there blowing your racism horn. Get a clue.

      <![CDATA[Ben,

your following comment is half wrong.

"Will Daley's tactic work this time? I doubt it. I can't see the council voting against local alderman Brendan Reilly (42nd) on a zoning issue. But at least the aldermanic debate will be an entertaining diversion from those tax bills."

If you think Daley is gonna lose this you are drinking the same Kool Aid Dick Simpson and Laura Washington partake in when they talk about the mythical anti Daley coalition.

However, watching it is going to be fun. I just looked over the 50 aldermen and my take is Daley gets all but possibly 3 white alderbeasts to vote with him. Reilly, Fioretti, and maybe Mr Fois Gras Moore may vote agin' him.

Throw in the machine black and hispanic aldermen and we are likely in the 40's for pro Daley votes.

Perhaps I am wrong. I doubt it.

Lay off our buddy Richie! When we were vacationing with him last month in Paris, we told him all about our plan for the children's mueseum and since we give a LOT of money to Richie, we should get what we want. How come Alderman Reilly wasn't in Paris with us?! He was probably wasting his time at some community meeting listening to the residents who probably don't donate any money to Richie.

<![CDATA[NONE of these creatures would be able to do what they do, IF the majority of citizens were:

    REGISTERED TO VOTE

    VOTED ON ELECTION DAY

    VOTED OUT ALL INCUMBENTS

VOTED IN ANYONE BUT THE INCUMBENTS

    VOTED USING THE:

HAVE NO DOUBT, VOTE INCUMBENTS OUT

    mathematical formula.

A concentrated effort will guarantee the firing of those presently in power.

    GUARANTEED.

    Let's all get busy.

Make a list of ALL incumbents.

Remove any incumbents' name that you are SURE you don't want to fire.

Take the list with you when you go to vote on election day.

DO NOT VOTE FOR THE INCUMBENTS ON YOUR LIST.

If there is only one challenger in any given contest, VOTE FOR THE CHALLENGER, no matter who it is.

If there are 2 or more challengers, then:

If the INCUMBENT is listed first, vote for the CHALLENGER who is listed LAST.

    or

If the INCUMBENT is NOT listed first, then vote for the CHALLENGER who IS LISTED FIRST.

Commit yourself to voting out practically all incumbents, break up the incestuous webs of corrupted power, take the authority to tax from these crooks, and see what happens.

What do we, the common citizens, have to lose?
