<![CDATA[hey, maybe someone who owns a music related business could sponsor him for a green card? or he could consider trying to apply for a masters or PhD and via that, look at applying for an F-1 student visa? this sucks.

<![CDATA[This is a huge loss indeed, and yet another example of how little this country's rulers/gatekeepers value true creativity and artistic innovation. Just reading your excerpt of the INS letter made my blood boil--it's infuriating to no end to think that an artist of Mr. Tanaka's caliber would have to leave for lack of "commercial success" or "high salary" (or a fucking Grammy). He sure did play his ass off last night...it was as if he, Ajemian and Parker were a single organism, breathing and pulsing with wonder and fury. At this point, to think of Chicago's improvised music community without Nori Tanaka is like imagining a body without a crucial organ. If there was a "Nori Tanaka Visa Fund", I would certainly contribute and spread word of it. I also wouldn't blame Mr. Tanaka for washing his hands of the INS and everything it represents, but I hope the music will bring him back somehow.
