<![CDATA[Another thing about local accuracy can be how long the actual boots on the ground have been on said ground. I will always recall the non-native-Chicagoan-written city guidebook that devoted a story to the singular summer game -- similiar to softball -- that we play here...A game that the author told his readers was called..."Clincher."

I can just picture the semi-befuddled scribe, out at a local Park District diamond, asking a player about the unfamiliar 16-inch softball: "What's that?" (asked while, no doubt, pointing at the orb)...while the player looks on in puzzlement, and answers with the ball's name brand: "Eh? That's a Clincher..."

<![CDATA[I have found over the years that when I'm reading the New York Times about a subject I know well, I almost always find mistakes-more than I would find on a subject I'm conversant with in the Chgo Tribune or Chgo Sun-Times.
