When talking about bakeries, how do you not mention the oldest family owned bakery in the city? Roesers Bakery (on North Ave. in Humboldt Park) doesnt have a "cafe", but their pies and cakes are unbeatable and one of their bakers was featured several times last year on the cooking network for his decorating skills. I wouldn't THINK of showing up for thanksgiving without a roesers pie in hand.

What about Yummy Yummy, Karyns cooked, lakeside cafe, and a bunch of different ethnic restaurants, like indian ethopian and thai. that are either all vegetarian or very friendly. Earwax in Wicker Park and Pick Me Up in Wrigleyville are the only places missing from this list. ;) (And maybe Sultan's Market or any of the many awesome, Chicago restaurants serving mediterranean/Middle-Eastern-cuisine...but I guess they're not organic and all serve meat.) Thanks again.

How could you leave out Clark Street Dog? When the fad of the others dies out, when you are tired of the foul mouth service and duck fat try the Clark Dog. Great place late night. Open until 4 a.m. I recommend their Philly Steak sandwich.
The name of the joint is "Gene's & Jude's". FWIW, the dogs at G's & J's are good, but no better that a dozen other joints around town and I've found the fries to be inconsistent -- ranging from super tasty to undercooked and virtually inedible.
Bah! I can't believe you overlooked Itto Sushi (which all my Japanese coworkers at the consulate adore, and I concur), Kurumaya and Sakura. Ok, so the latter two are suburban but as good as the suburban places you listed.
