The real issue is this ... he will not manage to keep Deb Mell off of the ballot. And all of the discussion of kink aside -- there are many gay men and lesbians who strongly support Deb Mell, an out lesbian who already holds the seat. The leather community is no where near as strong as the general GLBT community, who will look at Deb on her own merits and likely ignore the Blago connection. And seriously, Chuck Renslow as a help to his campaign? I doubt that Chuck has much clout at all to assist Joe. Good luck to Joe, but he is on a seriously uphill battle with little in the way of resources or political clout to carry him through.

I am Goddess on the Dungeon Place podcast. Though I certainly appreciate that our podcast is listened to in Chicago, I am rather annoyed that what was said on the Podcast was taken so clearly out of context.

When is our culture finally going to stop having lifestyle/race/color/gender/sexual orientation/religion be the determining factor in who is worthy of political office?? A man/woman's worthiness should be determined by their abilities and how they will represent the people. Who gives a damn if what they do sexually, what color/race they are? Really what should matter is if they can get the job done.

For the record, I would be delighted to vote for Joe and wish we had more men/women of integrity in our Utah legislature. No, not because he is a kinky but because of his honesty for who he is. I support Joe wholeheartedly.
Oak Park's Tif was extended by old Governor Ryan, old paly, old pal of ours. He wanted to extend the TIF in his home town of Kankakee and legally could not just extend the time of just one TIF district. So he wrote a law that said any TIF's created in the month of December of a certain year could be extended. It happened that Kankakee, Oak Park and I think two other suburban TIFs were created in that month and that year. So Oak Park in all it's wisdom extended ours. Taxes on some of my properties have doubled, our grade school Dist. 97 is dead broke, our village is dead broke and starving, and for what, so a political party can control cash and land subsidies to their friends and other people who are already farting through silk.

I will add to Gryphon's comments (I'm the "Tutivillus" who created DungeonPlace and the podcast mentioned).

I can tell you (as I mentioned in a previous comment) that our comments were certainly taken out of context. I would support Joe and vote for him in a heartbeat if I was able (sorry, I'm not in Chicago). My support would not be due to Lifestyle loyalty. I know about him because I've studied who he is, what he stands for and his views on the things that matter to me. I agree with many of those things. That is why I would support him.

Again. Transparency. His lifestyle shouldn't matter, his integrity should. Joe has integrity, that's why he's got the respect of *many* world-wide.

Now, let's talk about the integrity of Hunter Clauss. Misquoting and Slip-context is a classic "Straw-man" tactic. I don't know you, but your words represent who you are. Right now that representation is not shining too brightly.

Contact me if you'd like to set the record straight.
Hi, I'm the "Gryphon" mentioned in the article, and I said " He IS the lesser evil" not "might be". Mr. Rinella is a capable, intelligent, reasonable person, who happens to lead an alternative lifestyle. He would make an excellent addition to any governing body, not because his lifestyle makes him any more honest, any more communicative or any better than anyone else, but because that's just how he happens to be, whether or not his black leather couches dominate his living room.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned John Birch (his real name) who ran for the 9th Congressional District seat twice around ten years ago on the Libertarian and Republican tickets. He actually made hardcore leatherman-type videos featuring himself as the top and owned a gay bar on Lake Street. Of course, the chance of anyone getting elected to Congress from that district on either of those lines is close to nil. The last venture of his that I was aware of was him offering a crackpot course on how to get away with carrying concealed handguns in Chicago. The basic strategy was to carry a really expensive gun so that if and when the police stopped you, they would keep it for themselves instead of turning you in. Gee, I don't see how anything could go wrong with that plan!

It's interesting Clauss segwayed DungeonPlace.com’s FetishCast podcast from one of Mell's comments, but why is what should be addressed. It's a maneuver of poor journalism called a "strawman" tactic to use a somewhat unrelated subject to support a Mell's commentary. The question was on how he would be received by his potential constituency, not what he might do if elected.

Who is Clauss supporting here is exactly what I’m thinking. It's just disappointing to see such things in a media whose intent was to better represent groups existing beyond the mainstream, but this is how elections are won: by further marginalizing society to take votes in chunks rather than winning them on an individual’s merit. Clauss seems to be making it a matter of Lesbian vs. the Leatherman, both already somewhat marginalized groups. If he is then, and given the type publication, he may well serve to further obfuscate the past inaction of Mell rather than support someone who has actually made a difference in the personal lives of many. Really disappointing.
He may even want to do some annexing before he leaves office. Heck why don't we call Cook County Chicago and be done with this charade that Chicago's power and influence ends at its physical borders.

Clearly you're new to Chicagoland so I'll give you a little help. If you live in the "near west suburbs" (or even far west/north/whatever suburbs for that matter) they have this thing called "Metra" that can bring you into the city where you can spend your big suburban money to help our poor Chicago economy. Amazingly, once you get in the city you have the ability to take the "CTA" (buses and trains, oh my!) to get to just about anywhere you want to go. Otherwise, I suggest you open your eyes, stand up, look directly down and see those two things touching the floor? They're called your feet. By moving them one after the other they can get you to places as well. Try them out some time, they're fun!

Quit complaining, use public transit. No car, no cost to park. It's a pretty simple fix.

The bottom line is that if you want people to ride or walk, you've got to have a safe and stable infrastructure first."

And when did Critical Mass actually contribute any infrastructure?

And if I see a biker locking their bike up around a newly-planted tree they're gonna get smacked in the head. The most critical think for bikers is to stop thinking they are better than everyone else - bikers don't build roads. bikers don't buy city stickers to maintain the roads.

I've been biking for almost 30 years, and only in the last 5 or so have I seen such a ridiculous new wave of spoiled BRATS on bikes who think they own the city.
Why in the middle of a financial credit drought considered the biggest since the great depression are our leaders are focusing on HEALTHCARE ?

Why does Mayor Daley's article "Weathering The Storm" fail to discuss how you plan to pay for the large number of city workers pensions who will be retiring in the next 5-10 years ? I mean you have been in office for over twenty years continuously using city pensions to expand city government (not to mention your power base) while knowing baby boomer retirement cost was in the forecast, right ? Do you think the city budget can handle those commitments during the bigger financial crisis to come during next 3 years when the majority of those subprime reset as inflation takes hold in earnest ?

Our politician's appear to think we can handle the economic situation by ignoring it. How's that going to work ?
rob is a really good guy, and all the active trans staff and volunteers are very passionate about what they do. the fact is that, for better or for worse, nothing in this town gets done unless you have a good working relationship with city hall. some ata staffers actually work in the cdot offices and i have a feeling that may have played a part in this. besides, i think what they were initially concerned about had nothing to do with whether or not the city was shortchanged on the deal, but for example whether the city could decide to change the number of parking spots on a given block to install things like traffic calming bulb-outs and such.
Now that LAZ has hiked up the meter rates and made it so expensive to park, me, my friends, and our dollars will stay in the burbs where parking is still free and unfettered.
LAZ is not helping the Chicago economy at all....
