Enter to Win a Pair of Tickets to see Cate Le Bon at Schubas

A new force in song craft, Cate Le Bon currently resides in Cardiff's infamous French quarter and befitting a songwriter who only writes in the dark, her music is a heady and highly personal Gallic stew of equal parts Nico, Malkmus and the chronicler's own emotional observations on the impossibility of existence.

Sign up for a chance to win an "admit-two" pass for a screening of El Bulli, February 6th, 7th, 13th or 14th

SYNOPSIS:

Spanish chef extraordinaire Ferran Adrià is often extolled by his devotees as an alchemist who brings the aesthetics of taste to new heights. Others deride him as a foodie’s Dr. Frankenstein. However you choose to label him, there is no doubt that the world’s foremost proponent of molecular gastronomy aims to bring the principles of science and the sleight-of-hand of magic to the art of cooking. This concentrated portrait conveys the spirit of no-holds-barred experimentation, the discipline, and the tension that characterize Adrià in action with his team in his laboratory-like kitchen as the slate of dishes for a new season at his exclusive restaurant El Bulli is conjured up. In Catalan with English subtitles. HDCAM video.

El Bulli has several screening times. For more info, please visit www.www.siskelfilmcenter.org/elbulli

Enter to Win Tickets to a Screening of Love Stalker

Enter to Win Tickets to a Screening of Love Stalker

Sign up for a chance to win an "admit-two" pass for a double screening of Love Stalker and Love & Anarchy, Friday, February 17th

Portage Theater - 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave

SYNOPSIS:

What do you get when you mix a famed zombie maker to an unromantic comedy? Billy “Silver Dollar” Baxter Presents: “Love Stalker.” Lensed in the St. Louis metro area, Mt. Prospect native and Columbia College alum Matt Glasson teamed up with his former Columbia classmate, B. Bowls MacLean, to make the feature film “Love Stalker.” Glasson is now bringing their UNromantic comedy home for its Chicago premiere at the Portage Theater (8:00 PM Friday, February 17).“Love & Anarchy,” the acclaimed 1973 drama from Lina Wertmüller, stars a young, freckled-face Giancarlo Giannini as a simple peasant chosen to assassinate Mussolini at the dictator’s height of power in the early 1930’s. Giannini received the “Best Actor” award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance, and Lina Wertmüller went on to direct Giannini again in the critically acclaimed (and badly remade) “Swept Away” (1975) before becoming the first woman ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Direction with her film “Seven Beauties” (1977). The screening on February 17 will be projected using an original 16mm print from Mr. Baxter’s personal archives. (10 pm 2/17)
