C'mon, you either threatened to do it or you didn't, and it's extremely unlikely you don't recall whether you said it or not. Saying you "don't think it's true" puts you waaaaay into the corner of actually having said it.
Also, with all due respect to your wife, you just don't go there. She may be the most independent, learned, objective person on the planet, but when someone reviews a spouse's book, there's just no way people aren't going to raise an eyebrow.
