Re: “How a CPS teacher went from 'excellent' to 'do-not-hire' in one year

What perhaps teachers are not being taught or coached on is how to navigate the political landscape in a school system. Getting with a seasoned teacher for mentoring or coaching is critical to to being a successful teacher. Everyone that's in a classroom teaching is supposed to be a good teacher. But being able to be a good teacher and handle the administrative responsibilities of being a teacher are both important with the latter being the most important as that's how administrators address the many challenges of school management. Let's just say, they both go hand and hand together.

Ban from ever teaching in a CPS school because of a minor administrative mistake or oversight is considerably harsh but the Central Office administration has made it clear that they don't want teachers in their schools who can't or won't attend to these administrative duties - sounds like there's a history of critical administrative task not getting performed timely in CPS.

To say, this is critical to any profession. Doctors don't just treat patients but also have to perform critical administrative task. The person that delivers mail likewise has to perform work other than just mail delivery. It's the nature of work - taking the good with the bad.

So the lesson taught in this context, if you are asked to do something a certain way, find the time or make the time and get it done as requested or be prepared to suffer the consequences.
