I stopped teaching at public schools because of the union. Administrators paid lip service to students' best interests. Union reps didn't even bother. It was too cynical for words.
As a charter school teacher, I find that we're too reluctant to fail underachieving students. We're always focusing on students who complain, "If I worked this hard down at..., I'd be getting A's and B's." The end result is a watered down curriculum and me playing LCSW.
As long as schools are expected to educate and raise kids, we're going to fail.
