Re: “Burger Bar

This place has great burgers and a great selection of beer. I've been here twice. It is actually located in the SoNo neighborhood of the Near North Side and is actually a little over 2 1/2 full blocks west of Old Town's western border of Larrabee St.

1501 N. Kingsbury Street is actually 1.5 city blocks south of Lincoln Park, which has a southern boundary of North Avenue.

Re: “Aldermen advance Rahm's South Loop plan without analyzing it first

DePaul University will not own the yet to be named multipurpose "Events Center" and will pay the McCormick Pier and Exposition Authority (the owner) rent to use the "Events Center" for basketball games, commencements and convocations. MPEA will use it for trade shows the other two thirds of the year. DePaul will get money from whoever they can get to pay for naming rights and the ticket sale money from the games to be played. DePaul will also pay for half the building costs even though they won't own the "Events Center" at all.

DePaul's president announced that DePaul rejected $55 million in TIF funds and they'll be used on non DePaul affiliated Marriott hotel as part of the Elevate Chicago Plan to renovated the historic Motor Row District.

Re: “Mayor Rahm finds $92 million for his South Loop deal

Saying across the street from McCormick Place is in the South Loop is a very big stretch. It is actually the Near South Side.

Re: “Meigs Field II—the City Council very quietly passes Mayor Rahm's DePaul basketball arena deal

There seem to be many parts of the "Elevate Chicago Plan" of Mayor Emanuel. I agree that DePaul should not take TIF money, but DePaul will not own the "Multipurpose Events Center," the City of Chicago will. They will only occupy it for Convocation and Graduation Ceremonies and approximately 17 Men's Basketball games and 10 Women's Basketball games a year.. DePaul will only make money on tickets to the games and however much they can get someone to pay for the naming rights. Also, MPEA funds cannot go to schools. DePaul has to pay for 1/3 of a project that will not own and will only use said "Events Center" approximately 1/3 of the year. The other 2/3 will be conventions and concerts and possibly CPS sporting events. This plan also include a Navy Pier renovation and 2 hotels. Also, DePaul's "on campus arena" McGrath-Phillips Arena is no bigger than a high school gym and could not fit the men's basketball team for most non-conference and conference games. The current A. Finkl & Sons Co. steel mill site is a much better option for DePaul to use.

Re: “Education in Chicago: Millions for DePaul, bulldozers for Whittier Elementary

While I am against the use of Tax Incremental Funding for any part of Mayor Emanuel's Elevate Chicago Plan, the main purpose is to add entertainment in the area around McCormick Place, the Near South Side. While DePaul University's basketball teams would use the Multipurpose Events Center for about 1/3 of the year, DePaul will not own the events center and the plan, from what I've read so far is to use it for mid-sized conventions and possibly for concerts and CPS sporting events as well as taking away the corny-ness of Navy Pier and improving it into a world-class destination, which outside of the boat rides, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Chicago Children's Museum, and IMAX movie theater, Navy Pier is pretty much currently just a bunch of shops with overpriced goods/crap.
