tacere est bene, sed dicere - non semper: orationis facere dobemus, non iudicare!

Re: “Can Democracy Work in Chicago?

As one of the thinkers of the previuos century Russia put it, "a revolution can win only in one separate country", thus, a democracy can win in one separate city. But, before it wins, 1. all the offenders should be punished; 2. all the people confessed; 3. all the victims of lies, cheating, swindling, harassment, batteries, thefts, etc. should be awarded the just amount of money for moral loses (first of all) and for their nerves, health, time and money they were cheated out. And then- we can start the campaign of Real Democracy: listen, first of all, to those we have never listened to, to my neighbors and, of course, to me: we have many things to be said and many things to be listened to. Long live Democracy! Ivan Petryshyn

IL SIGNOR ALLOWS THE BATTLE BETWEEN A LAYMAN AND A MONSIGNOR?
Ivan Petryshyn
The criticism that so verbose seems to come to the following points:
1. Catholics loosing identity - does not that mean just becoming humbler as the Religion teaches us to be?
2. supporting 'society ills' - can't that be translated as applying common sense - the Church give you the Teaching, the choice is always yours: by God you were given the ability to choose, to think and to be free;
3. expectation from a 'rival' to do what an opponent wants him to do: a/ trying to use the resources to tell the Monsignor what should be done, what/who should be hated (a mere misinterpreting of the importance of the Church authority); b/ everybody, though, has the right for the freedom of speech, moreover, a Church Leader.
4. criticizing other Religions: a/ but- they are as good as others, and,also, equally recognized - the InterReligions Dialogue has proved that long before the dispute; b/ and - if you do not profess a religion, you have no right to criticize the way they believe (if it only does not endanger the lives of other members of the society): it is the WILL of God for them to be;
5. errors: a/ what makes you think you have the right to point out to the errors of others, even if they exist? b/ who gave you the authority to be a "corrector" of the mistakes, if any? c/ do not you think it could be the plan of God to make the Archdiocese develop the way it is developing?
6. describing a Brother-in-Christ in a humiliating manner: a/ the Holy Bible is against that! - one should read it oftener!
7. the question of physical labor: one is working physically, another - intellectually, the other is a leader, a religiuos Leader: recall! - "the laborers are few!"
8. an exaggeration: to criticize a Religious Leader does not necessarily mean "to tear down the body of Christ!" , no! the act like that is the sign of a moral corruption, imperfection and transgression against your Brother (one who believes should know how to regain Grace).
JUST, LET US BELIEVE IN WHAT WE SHOULD AND VERIFY WHAT IS ALLOWED/SHOULD TO BE VERIFIED.
