One thing: Is "Cousins" another song that makes use of Autotune? Because it's very apparent on "California English," but I can't hear it on "Cousins" at all.

Also, I think that second to last paragraph is great, particularly in how disassembles the lazy descriptor of "African" or "Afropop," music journo shorthand for this Vampire Weekend aesthetic, which, as you point out, involves several other spheres of influence.
