From the outsisde, this place doesn't look like much, but it turned out to be a fantastic restaurant. The bartender, Mike, was such a great guy. He was friendly and made great wine recommendations. The wait staff was very professional and helpful, and the food was very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We will definitely be back to this little gem!

Re: “Galway Arms

On a warm Saturday night, this place was utterly packed and so loud we could barely talk. Our poor waiter was clearly overworked and it took an awful long time to get our food and drinks. However, it's worth the wait when the ribs are as good as they are here. I've never had such tender ribs, and the sauce was perfect - not too thick or cloyingly sweet. The steak wrap was very tasty, too, and they didn't skip on the meat the way wraps often seem to. Did I mention that they pour a near-perfect pint of Guinness? I will absolutely be back, but maybe at on off time or on a weeknight so I don't have to deal with the crowd of annoying, screaming Lincoln Parkers.

Re: “Raw Bar & Grill

I usually like this place, but my most recent trip left something to be desired. When ordering the entree, I asked for one dish and our server suggested a different dish. I politely declined, but he again strenuously suggested I order his dish of choice. It took several repeated requests on my part before he relented and allowed me to order the dish I wanted. Once my entree arrived, though, it was very good - especially the potatoes. The other entree, however, was extremely overpriced and not well-prepared. We ordered the King Crab for $35, and we got 3 legs. That's it. 3. They came cut in half lengthwise for easy access, and covered in the same sauce the potatoes were in. It was a strange way to serve the crab and it was terribly overpriced. My companion left the restaurant hungry.

I loved this place. Everything about it was fantastic. The food was excellent, the beer selection outstanding, and the service phenomenal. Our server was hilarious and quick with our drink orders, and he was very knowledgeable about the beers and made great recommendations. I will absolutely be returning. Oh, and try the chili. It's wonderful!

Re: “Select Cut Steak House

We went to this place because we heard they have some of the best burgers in Chicago. I'm not sure they're the best, but they are plenty good. We had burgers and beer - this is probably not the best place for a casual dinner, but everything was good and the service was friendly. I would definitely like to go back and try a steak.

Re: “Goose Island Brewpub

The veggie chili is very good. It's my favorite thing on the menu, and I'm definitely not a vegetarian. However, we went on the night of a Cubs game, and so the service was a little slow, but definitely acceptable. The beer was warm and flat, which was a problem. They also have a "beer flight" on their menu, but don't offer it during Cubs games. I understand that, but they should mention that on the menu.

Re: “Merle's #1 Barbecue

I love Merle's, although I always feel like a hog after eating there (appropriate, considering it's a barbeque joint). The pulled pork was moist and flavorful, and all the sides were excellent, especially the creamy, gooey mac and cheese. The pulled brisket was a little greasy, but it tasted OK. Desserts are enormous and delicious and terrible for you - as desserts should be.

The only problem I had this trip to Merle's was the bartender. We sat at the bar and attempted to have a couple beers prior to dinner, but after we finished our first, we couldn't get attention from any of the three bartenders. I suppose it's forgivable; they were having some crisis at the beer tap and foam was flying everywhere. We learned our lesson, though - next round, we ordered a pitcher.

Re: “Tarascas International

The service was appalling. My first plate was dirty, and it took forever to get a new one. Since they don't offer free chips at lunch, our request for additional chips for the guacamole that we PAID for was nearly denied...they threatened to charge us for the extras.

At first, the waitress wouldn't leave us alone, but by the end of our lunch we couldn't do anything to get her attention. I finally had to ask another watiress to ask her to come over. It took approximately 20 minutes to get our check.

While the food and the margaritas are outstanding, this last service experience I had was pretty awful. I'll try it again, though.

Re: “Mayan Palace

The food and drinks were pretty good, but our waiter was appalling. He was nice enough, but could never remember to bring us what we'd asked for. We had to ask for extra salsa repeatedly. Also, one member of our party asked for silverware since he hadn't been given any, and our waiter said, "We don't have any." Eventually we just had to steal some off an empty table. I'd go back and try it again, but only on half-price margarita night. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth the potential aggravation.
