A sketch revue that explores the pitfalls of "dating, work, marriage, and life in Chicago." $8-$13
A happy hour for dog owners with dog-related boutiques, vendors, shelters, and other businesses.
Given the red carpet outside, the plush booths and candlelit tables within, and the polished video segment that kicks off each show, it's clear Red Bar co-owners Kyle Lane and Mike David (host of the talk-radio program Red Bar Radio) wanted an upscale atmosphere for their weekly stand-up show. But the classy touches don't extend to the club's garden-variety scenester lineup. For better or worse, expect a mixed bag. On the night I visited, Ken Barnard excelled with left-field premises and off-the-cuff quips, while the remaining comics floundered in a pool of flaccid dick jokes. And at just over an hour, the show felt short. But don't dismiss Red Bar yet: between the slick look and reasonable price, you've got a promising stage that may raise the bar for Chicago comics. --Steve Heisler $10
