The Vinegar Works

Through 6/14: Sat 2 PM

Blair Thomas & Company’s latest puppet show is a stunning feat of artistry and toy theatrical skill inspired by the work of Edward Gorey, whose famously morbid vision of life is brought to life in three acts, corresponding to his "three volumes of moral instruction." It begins with The Gashlycrumb Tinies, a mock alphabet noting the fate of various hilariously doomed children: N is for Neville who died of ennui, while S is for Susan who perished of fits. If you're drawn to Gorey's gothic humor (and it's hard not to be) this is one to see, though perhaps not with your small children. Joe Mazza is exuberant as the morbid master of ceremonies, and the entire company displays a precision of artistry and dedication to craft that matches the work of Gorey himself. —Suzanne Scanlon
