Chicago native Hannibal Buress gets noticed by going slow. The 27-year-old comic’s delivery is supremely calm and deliberate as he works harebrained premises involving bizarre uses for leftover pickle brine, the inventor of the Flaming Dr. Pepper, and a secret desire to kick pigeons. And attention is being paid. Buress, who’s writing this season for SNL, tours as a headliner and is slated to appear in the Awkward Kings of Comedy stand-up special on Comedy Central next month—impressive, given that only a few years ago he was trotting around the city performing at any open mike or showcase that would have him. Slowly but surely, Buress is becoming a star. —Steve Heisler
