This Tony-winning musical is even larger than larger-than-life in Marc Robin's in-the-round staging. Based on the John Waters film set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a zaftig teen who loves to dance and tease her hair to dizzying heights. After gaining a coveted spot on the Corny Collins TV dance party show, Tracy is exposed to racism and lobbies relentlessly against it. In the delightful finale, the cast engages the audience as they dance in the aisles. Ross Lehman captivates as hilarious hausfrau Edna Turnblad, dressed in drag unfit for any queen. --Marissa Oberlander
