Deanna Isaacs

Bio:
I'm a staff writer at the Reader. Before that: grad student at NU, staff writer at the St. Petersburg Times, and beat reporter at City News Bureau. My first Reader story was published in 1980; I've been writing the culture column since 2000. It's been a feast of great material, including, among those in recent memory, Professor Jerry Harris's explanation of why so many of us are broke and out of work ("The Transnational Economy"); the Art Institute shuffle that bumped its Chagall windows to the back of the house ("Chagall's New Nook") ; and the state law that got artist Chris Drew in much deeper trouble than he'd bargained for when he set out to make a point about the lack of art on Chicago streets ("Accidental Poster Child"). Sometimes the fun goes on longer, as in this profile of Chicago's bad boy architect, Stanley Tigerman ("Tigerman on the Loose").
