Deanna Isaacs
Bio:
I'm a staff writer at the
Reader. Before that: grad student at NU, staff writer at the
St. Petersburg Times, and beat reporter at
City News Bureau. My first
Reader story was published in 1980; I've been writing the culture column since 2000. It's been a feast of great material, including, among those in recent memory, Professor Jerry Harris's explanation of why so many of us are broke and out of work (
"The Transnational Economy"); the Art Institute shuffle that bumped its Chagall windows to the back of the house (
"Chagall's New Nook") ; and the state law that got artist Chris Drew in much deeper trouble than he'd bargained for when he set out to make a point about the lack of art on Chicago streets (
"Accidental Poster Child"). Sometimes the fun goes on longer, as in this profile of Chicago's bad boy architect, Stanley Tigerman (
"Tigerman on the Loose").
