Reuben Fleischer's Zombieland was a promising debut, combining the cheap thrills of a horror-comedy with genuine character observation and some surprisingly graceful camera work. Those virtues are still present in his second feature, but just barely: junior-high-level one-liners are the chief order of business here. (This remains a must-see, however, if you find racial slurs or anal sex inherently funny.) Jesse Eisenberg—displaying remarkable commitment to his role, given the material—plays a pizza delivery boy who's kidnapped by dumbasses and forced to rob a bank; Aziz Ansari, not quite acting, plays the high-strung friend who agrees to help him out. The film contains a remarkable level of violence, yet never establishes a tone that would make it seem funny or truly shocking; the jokes flounder in an air of half-hearted spite.
