No movie with Kevin Spacey as a heartless prick can be all bad, but this gambling thriller, based on Ben Mezrich's nonfiction book
Bringing Down the House, hasn't got much else going for it. An MIT math professor, Spacey recruits five undergraduate whizzes to accompany him to Las Vegas, where they run a card-counting scam at the blackjack tables and live like pharaohs on their winnings. The students are so blandly written you might want to count them too. Robert Luketic (
Legally Blonde) directed; with Jim Sturges, Kate Bosworth, and Laurence Fishburne. PG-13, 123 min.
