Don't forget about Baby Wants Candy! Funniest show I've ever seen. They're at the Apollo Theater now.

nice! i discovered two of these last week myself. the CPC and HarvesTime. I used to live by Edgewater Foods on Clark, but just moved closer to HarvesTime and noticed it was listed on Edgewater's bags. Holy crap it's way nicer and bigger! (and just as cheap)

CPC was great when the vote was taken, but now that Richard is gone the the place has gone down the toilet.

The Chicago Photography Center is now a sterile place to take classes. The community of volunteers and the Director are now gone which was the heart of this organization.

I agree. The board at the CPC is a joke. They fired the program director and refused to take the volunteers seriously. That's why 25+ volunteers recently walked out. They ruined the community to try and make more money. Beware!

Don't bother with classes at CPC anymore. The board doesn't know what they're doing. The volunteers who left were the true leaders of the program, and when the board fired the program director they assured the program would be gutted. I took classes there for a long time. It's never going to be good again like it was before.

The Chicago Photography Center was a once great place that is falling apart because they have an unproven photographer and egotistical a-hole, William Benson, now leading the majority of classes. They also have a Board of Directors that are power hungry and too stubborn to admit they have flaws and have made very bad decisions. They are now letting students that started there 8 weeks ago and just finished their first class take over as lab instructors and lead new students. I'd be very cautious about spending $500 on a class at a place that lacks organization and quality instructors.

...I am wondering whether Chicago Photography Center was added to this list before or after Founder Richard Stromberg was abruptly dumped by the opportunistic usurpers now running what was once a better and far more affordable place to learn photography than local art schools. They are sure pretty adept at capitalizing on the reputation the school enjoyed while Richard led, nurtured, promoted, and taught classes there...

I thought about taking a class at this new place but when I went to the new website I saw that Mr. Stromberg was boasting that he had been fired for personal hygene reasons. Not only did the personal hygene part turn me away from signing up for a class, as it probably would for every woman in Chicago, but the stupidity of boasting about it on a website made me realise that I definitely do not want to give my money to a fool. I see that the personal hygene part has been removed from the website now. At least Mr Stromberg must be getting good advice from somewhere.
