Crickets / Music Permanent Records Celebrates Its Third Birthday

All four bands on the bill have releases on Permanent's burgeoning record label. Ambient experimental trio Mako Sica kicks off the evening, followed by the excellent reverb-drenched and dissonant electro-rock of Black Math (mental note: listen to more Black Math). Cacaw follow with what Reader writer Monica Kendrick calls "a face-scouring blurt of minimalist punk-metal that maintains a truly scary intensity." The last time I caught Cacaw was this past summer at a sweltering Double Dagger gig at Automatic, and they matched the ferocity and general balls-out mania of that Baltimore band blow for blow, which is saying quite a bit. Cacaw would easily steal the show if it wasn't for the headliners: psyched-out Krautrockers Cave, who are producing some of the best shit this city has to offer musically.
Cover is a bargain at $5, and there will also be gift-certificate giveaways and "other tasty prizes to sweeten the deal," according to Permanent. Last year's anniversary show sold out, so advance tickets (available through the Hideout's site) might be in order.
Also in honor of its anniversary, Permanent Records is having a 20-percent-off-everything sale on Friday, November 27, from 11 AM till 9 PM. And while I'm talking about Permanent, I might as well say that the shop hosts one of its regular free in-store performances on Saturday, November 28, at 6 PM, with New Zealand's Axemen and Cave side project Bitchin' Bajas.
