Fashion / Music Men's Style, via the Selvedge Yard

I've said before that in general men's style and fashion gets a lot less love than the ladies'. Often it's all about the details, which can be lost on the casual observer. Jon Patrick of the eclectic blog The Selvedge Yard (brought to my attention by Whet—thanks!) highlights some stylish guys you might've overlooked if you're not a record collector with some great photos collected from hither and yon.
Patrick writes:
Miles Davis' style was always very thought out, there were no accidents—every detail said something about him, and was there for a reason. It's easy to look at this picture and miss the subtle, but very telling, details. Note—the absence of a breast pocket on the sportcoat, or buttons on the sleeve. The smooth, uninterrupted lines of the soft, almost invisible drop shoulder, close-notched coat collar, and the rounded club, or penny, shirt collar. It all adds up to a pretty specific look.
If only more American men would pay even half as much attention to their clothes! Perhaps it's telling that other guys Patrick has singled out for praise recently are British:

Another gentleman who is often singled out for his personal elan: Bryan Ferry. Who else could pull off looking so cool astride a camel while in Western clothes? No one.

I have to say I'd never thought much about the style of the Clash (too busy mooning over Duran Duran, I guess) until musician and artist Damon Locks pointed to them—or more specifically, to bass player Paul Simonon—as an influence when I interviewed him for the Reader's old "What Are You Wearing" feature a few years ago.
