Rapper Lupe Fiasco and actor Michael Ealy (Barbershop 1 & 2) perform live readings alongside author and filmmaker Anthony Arnove, who screens excerpts from his documentary The People Speak, Wednesday 11/11 at Northwestern.

Arnove adapted the film from the book Voices of a People's History of the United States, which he cowrote with Howard Zinn. It's free and "open to members of the Northwestern University community."

The People Speak features celebrities performing onstage historical orations and writings with a subversive slant on U.S. history, including Sean Penn, Don Cheadle (Richard Wright), Danny Glover (Frederick Douglass), Marisa Tomei (Adrienne Rich), Josh Brolin (Christopher Columbus), Viggo Mortensen (Eugene V. Debs), Sandra Oh (Emma Goldman), John Legend (Muhammad Ali), as well as Fiasco and Ealy (Malcom X).

The live performance and screening is Wednesday 11/11 at 8 PM at the Owen L. Coon Forum in the Jacobs Center, 2001 Sheridan Road in Evanston. Northwestern professor Nancy MacLean hosts. It screens 12/13 on the History Channel.
