Monday from 6 to 9 PM the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington, wheelchair accessible entrance on Randolph) will host Site Unseen 2009: (Dis)abling Conditions, featuring "performances, installations, and video works consider[ing] issues around disability . . . created specifically for the rooms and architecture of the Chicago Cultural Center."
The event, curated by Chicago-based performance artist Julie Laffin, will include artists working in audio, performance, spoken word, movement-based art, and media installation. Performances are designed to "bring visibility to a broad range of disabilities," such as a satire entitled The 2327 Commandments for Communicating with the Handicapable: Disability Etiquette 101, by "disability guerrillas" Mike Ervin and Rahnee Patrick. May I Have, a performance by Judith Harding in collaboration with the Still Point Theater Collective, is "movement-centered work" addressing "issues of inclusion and transparent barriers faced by those with developmental disabilities."
Programs and booklets will be available in large print and Braille.
