Film Lefty

Todd Looby's Lefty may be the last film to shoot at the South Side Irish Parade.
The independent drama, the iO-trained Looby's second after his semi-autobiographical construction manager comedy The Site, follows the reunion of two childhood buddies returning to their old Beverly haunts - one an artist facing cancer (co-writer Thomas Madden), the other an Iraq War vet home between tours (Billy Phelan). Lefty has its local premiere tonight at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
Wiinner of the best feature award at last week's Iowa Independent Film Festival, Lefty features performances and recordings by The Blacks, Healthy White Baby, and Brighton, MA.
Lefty screens July 24, 28 and 30 at 8:15 PM at the Film Center, 164 N. State. Looby and cast and crew will attend. $9.

I was at the premiere of "Lefty" on Friday night and thought Todd did a great job on the small budget he had to shoot this movie. Having grown up on the Southside and being Irish; I thought it was pretty authentic and it was great to see Chicago as I know it on screen. I would love to see what Todd is capable of creating if given the $ and backing. Great Job Todd, cast and crew! I enjoyed it.
I saw this movie at the Premiere at the Siskel theater on Friday night to a sold-out crowd and I thought it was a very entertaining movie and an honest look at growing up on the southside. I thought the acting and the writing was great. The entire audience was laughing at times. If only they had a budget!
