Blair Kamin reports that William Baker, a partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, became the first American to win the Fritz Leonhardt prize for structural engineering. In 2007, Wired ran an excellent profile of Baker that's worth a read; he's one of the great living engineers.
Elsewhere in architecture: Whereblog has some shots of the new High Line park in Manhattan. The deck chairs built on rails are genius. It makes me want the Bloomingdale Trail even more.
