News / Clout City Jim Thompson's view on the Wrigley Field deal(s)

Former governor James Thompson called to say I was all wet about the Tribune Company's original proposal regarding Wrigley Field: Thompson says it didn't die because Mayor Daley opposed it (though the governor agreed the mayor initially did oppose it). In fact, he says, Daley's last public comments about the deal showed the mayor had an open mind about it. The deal died, Thompson says, because Tribune wanted state sales tax dollars to go into rebuilding the park and Daley didn't want any public funds to be used.
"There wasn't a dime's worth of difference between Mayor Daley's position and mine," says Thompson. "We were both against using a single cent of taxpayers money."
As for the latest proposal for selling Wrigley Field to the state, the one Governor Rod Blagojevich is talking about on the recording cited in the DOJ complaint against him, Thompson said he first heard about it in the news reports, just like all the rest of us.

so last summer Thompson is stumping for this deal, and we poor taxpayers tried to parse the meager public details, straining in vain to find some kind of public benefit then last week our local USAG holds a press conference and we see, oh, right, of course, there IS no public benefit, it IS all insider baseball

Jim Thompson is a big goof and the root at many of our problems. High taxing, lying and white collar patronage. Stop corruption and don't pardon Ryan get rid of Thompson in government.
What I don't understand is why Big Jim would give two shits about what you said about anything. The eagle does not fly with the sparrow.....

"Jim is lucky he's not looking through bars every day." He should be, after all, he's the originator of how the Governor's office 'works' in Illinois. Why do you suppose his law firm represented Ryan for no fee and now is his 'release spokesman'. George knows where ALL the 'bodies' are buried.
I always wondered why they called him "Big Jim". Hmmmmm......
